The Doddridge County High School boys and the Williamstown High School girls track teams blew away the Class A competition at the West Virginia State Track Meet at Charleston’s Laidley Field on May 18th-19th, 2012. This year's Class A State Meet was a record-breaking year for both the boys and girls. They had a combined total of eighteen performances that bettered the State Meet record, ten for the girls and eight for the boys.
The Berkeley Springs High School girls' track team won five events and the team title, while Frankfort’s Bria Welker turned in a 40-point performance and earned high point honors at the West Virginia High School Class AA Girls Track & Field State Championships on May 18th-19th, 2012 at Laidley Field in Charleston, WV.
Going into the West Virginia High School Track & Field State Tournament, which was held on May 18th-19th at Charleston Laidley Field, the Buckhannon-Upshur girls' track team were looking for a third straight team team championship. However, Morgantown's Coach Steve Blinco said at the beginning of the track season that he felt people were counting his team out. Blinco knew in his heart that the Mohigans would be in the hunt for the Team Championship. "We have a lot of young talent, but just don't count us out!" said Blinco.
Using contributions from across their roster, the Jefferson High School boys team earned their third straight West Virginia AAA Track & Field title on Saturday at Laidley Field in Charleston.
During the 2011 West Virginia State Track Meet, then Sophomore Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland High School, ran an impressive triple with a 1:54.01 in the 800 meter run, a 4:08.80 in the 1600 meter run, and a 9:11.29 in the 3200 meter run. He pulled off the same triple this year with an amazing 3200m record.
Fans of West Virginia High School Track & Field are still in awe of the spectacular record breaking performances at this year's State Meet in which three athletes turned in 40-point performances by winning a total of four individual events apiece. Never has a State Meet produced this many perfect scores.
The 98th Boys and 38th Girls West Virginia High School Track & Field State Championships were held on May 18th-19th, 2012 at Laidley Field Track in Charleston WV. Some of West Virginia's brightest stars shined during this two day tournament. There were fourteen records set in the girls and eleven in the boys. In all, we had a combined total of twenty-five records set over the course of the meet, with nine records being set in the Class A Girls, two in the Class AA Girls, three in the Class AAA Girls, seven in the Class A Boys, one in the Class AA Boys, and three in the Class AAA Boys.

It was sultry day at Laidley Field and the performances heated up. Fourteen state or meet records were broken on Day 1 with more sure to follow today. As expected the AAA Boys meet is tight.

In the Class A Boys, the Buffalo High School boys 4x800m relay team of (Isaiah Robinson, Evan Childers, Jonathan Torman, and Dylan Rich) repeat as State Champions. They also broke the Class A Boys State Meet Record in this event in a time of 8:09.05. The previous State Meet Record was held by Doddridge County High School of (Troy Wilsoncroft, Levi Grandt, Jason Oldaker, David Orejuela) back in 2005 in a time of 8:21.58.
Maggie Drazba, a junior at St.Marys High School, won the Class A Girls 3200 meter run in a new State Meet record time of 10:59.09. Finishing second by over one minute and 15 seconds behind her teammate was senior Jenny Brewer of St. Marys High School in 12:14.90, third was junior Nele Frey Doddridge County High School in 12:20.91, fourth was Ashley Cassidy of Tucker County High School in 12:21.30, fifth was senior Bethany Carroll of Doddridge County High School in 12:25.97, and the sixth place finish went to senior Sarah Smith of Cameron High School in 12:28.34.
