Richwood High School senior Andrew Shaffer completed a triple in the distance events at the Ripley Invitational this past Thursday. The class-A distance standout ran new season best times of 4:33.20 in the 1600m and 10:04.59 in the 3200m, and he ran a PR of 2:05.55 in the 800m.
Shaffer was State Runner-up at the 2010 AA-A Boys West Virginia State Cross Country Championship Meet in a time of 16:41 and State Champ at the 2011 AA-A Boys West Virginia State Cross Country Championship Meet in a new PR of 16:27.3. At the State Track Meet Shaffer placed sixth his freshman year in the 3200m in 10:49.54. During his sophomore year he placed third in the 1600m in 4:35.25 and second in the 3200m in 9:52.51. Shaffer won the State title in the 1600m his junior year with a time of 4:32.78 and was State Runner-up in the 3200m in 9:47.53.
Shaffer looks to be in the hunt for some more State Track Meet titles! We are looking forward to the great battle between Andrew Shaffer and Evan Childers of Buffalo in the Class A Boys State Track Meet.
Andrew Shaffer will head to Ohio Valley University this coming fall.
