3-time VIS champ Ellis opens with 16:33 5K win in WVa

Photo by John Herzog Covenant senior Austin Ellis, who will be running for his third straight Virginia Independent Schools Division II state champion this fall, opened up his 2007 cross country season with how he hopes to finish with a first place finish. The Covenent squad, also the defending Division II state champions, ventured to West Virginia for the Bobcat Invitational in Buckhannon. Ellis took a dominant 20 second win in 16:33, while his team five points away from first with a team score of 84 points for third place. The Covenant girls were fifth among 18 teams at the Bobcat Invite with 114 points as their top finisher was Brittany Murphy in 11th place (22:47).
