TULSA, Okla. - Matt Schiffbauer of the Marshall University men's cross country team placed third overall to help the Thundering Herd finish fourth as a team at the 2010 Conference USA Cross Country Championships Monday morning.
Schiffbauer finished the 8K course at the Indian Springs Country Club in a time of 23:42. He was 12 seconds behind Elkana Rotich of UTEP who was the individual champion. Schiffbauer earned First-Team All-Conference USA with the third-place finish. David Caldwell was the Herd's second runner to finish the course as he crossed the line in a time of 24:30 and 14th overall. Caldwell earned Second-Team All-Conference USA. David Caldwell 
On the women's side, the Herd was led by Heather Saffel who placed 63rd overall in the 5K race with a time of 19:03. The women finished 12th as a team.
Tulsa won both the men's and the women's team championships.
Schiffbauer and the Herd now prepare for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Penn State on Nov.13th.
