WVU Women Earn Bid to NCAA Cross Country Championship

Bethlehem, PAWest Virginia University women’s cross country team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championship to be held on Saturday, November 19 at Indiana State University. The lady Mountaineers tallied 77 points to place second to Princeton’s 56 points at the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa.

   

The Mountaineers were led by 3rd place finisher, sophomore Marie-Louise Asselin, with a time of 20:00 on the 6K course. Clara Grandt from Doddridge County finished 6th in 20:20, and Keri Bland of North Marion was 7th in 20:21.Kaylyn Christopher (21:17) of Preston and Maria Dalzot (21:19) of Morgantown rounded out the scoring.

            

In the men’s race, Travis Epling of Point Pleasant, led Marshall University’s Thundering Herd to a 17th place finish. Epling’s placed 53rd in a time of 31:31 over the 10K course.

   

Marshall University ladies finished 27th and was led by Emma Berry of Morgantown.

 

 The NCAA finals will be held on November 19th at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana.
