Concord Men Claim Greensboro Invitational Trophy
Greensboro, NC -- The Concord Mountain Lions are peaking at the right time as they won the coveted wooden 1st place trophy of the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational held at Hagan Stone Park by team effort over St. Andrews Presbyterian College Knights of Laurinburg NC. St. Andrews placed three runners ahead of Concord University of Athens, WV, but the Concord depth was too much too overcome. The knights placed runners in the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 12th, and 42nd spots. However, the talented Mountain Lion squad placed 5 runners in the top 15 and had 7 runners in the top 23 places. Randy Horner finished in 7th (27:33.6) followed by Chris Herron in 8th (27:38.3), Chris Snell in 13th (27:47.7), Ryan Kent in 14th (27:48.90), and Scott Grose in 15th (27:52.6).
Scott Bonette of Wheeling Jesuit University finished 17th in 28:02.9 and paced the Cardinals to a 9th place team finish. Fairmont State finished 11th and was led by John Thompson a 2004 graduate of Nicholas County with a time of 28:11.8 and placing 25th overall.
Kallen Weaver of West Liberty was the highest finishing WVIAC runner as she covered the 5K course of Hagan Stone Park in 19:36.7. Weaver a 2005 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic continues her impressive year. The next WVIAC runner to cross the finish line was Kasey Jividen of Wheeling Jesuit and she led the ladies Cardinals to a 3rd place finish. Jividen a freshman from Winfield placed 25th overall in 20:57.60. The Concord ladies finished 8th overall and was led by 27th place finisher Katrina Osterman in 21:08. Fairmont State finished 11th overall.
