Region IV A-AA – Charleston Catholic girls with an amazing 17 points advance to the State meet with their Region IV Class A-AA win as they placed 5 girls in the top 10 and finished well ahead of Region runner-up Scott who grabbed 45 points. Ally Hoyer of Charleston Catholic got a region championship added to her resume as she won in 21:20. Teammate Anna Sampson claimed 2nd in 22:32. Ravenswood boys led by 1st place and region champion Nathan Rees (17:48) and region runner-up Alex Cole (17:56) added another cross-country title with a low score of 24 points as they placed 4 runners in the top 5. Charleston Catholic was runner-up with 59 points. With his 3rd place finish, Chase Nelson (18:17) of Scott prevented a sweep of the top 4 places. Ravenswood boys and Charleston Catholic boys advance to next week’s State meet. Region IV AAA – Hurricane girls led by juniors Alex Dent (1st place - 19:41.2) and Josie Crouch (2nd place – 19:50.02) won the Region IV title as the ladies from Hurricane placed 5 girls in the top 11 and 6 in the top 12 while gathering 30 points. Senior Megan Truelove of Winfield took 3rd in 19:54.13. Cabell Midland paced by senior Rachel Williams’ 4th place finish in 20:36.77 took team runner-up honors with 56 points. Hurricane, Cabell Midland and Parkersburg South girls advance to next week’s State meet. Matthew Burton, a senior, of Winfield edged junior Nolan Queen of Cabell Midland for individual awards with a time of 17:35.68. Queen’s close finish was clocked in 17:37.71. However, Cabell Midland would claim the top spot with a big Region IV win an impressive showing (29 points). Cabell Midland placed 5 runners in the top 10 as they tune up for the State meet. Trey Beckett of Cabell Midland grabbed the 3rd place position with a time of 17:41.78. Cabell Midland, Winfield and Parkersburg South boys advance to the State meet.
