Senior Nick Trefz of Fairmont Senior with the 4th fastest time posted in West Virginia this year and the fasted in A-AA classification in 2012 cruised to a 12 second victory with a sub 16 minute time of 15:52.2.
Trefz in preparation for the state meet won the Big Ten Championship and the WV Region I A-AA meet. He also claimed first place in the Geico Classic and Times Invitational. His fastest 3200m time from outdoor track is 9:25.40.

It took a good tight pack for Fairmont Senior (92 points) to claim the team title over 2nd place Frankfort (111 points) to prove that cross country is a team sport. Even though no other runner besides Trefz placed in the top 15, Fairmont Senior had 5 claiming the top 30 in team points allocated. Freshman Jakeb Van Horn took 24th overall, but 17th in points with a 17:37.5 clocking, junior Josh Parrucci was 27th overall (19th in points) in 17:41.3, senior Elijah Tipton was 35th overall (25th in points) in 17:54.90, and rounding out the scoring for Fairmont Senior was senior Josh McPherson in 40th overall and 30th in points with a time of 18:09.70.

Earning the All-State designation and the right to stand on the podium with Trefz were senior Caleb Moore of Doddridge County (2nd;16:04), junior Johnny Hogue of Ritchie County (3rd;16:11), senior Dylan Rich of Buffalo (4th;16:12), senior Marcus Black of Charleston Catholic (5th; 16:16), sophomore Brettley Harris of Webster County (6th;16:22), senior Will Shaffer of Scott (7th;16:23), senior Jordan Whitehair of St. Marys (8th;16:28), junior Abe Merinar of Bridgeport (9th;16:30) and senior Shane Ickes of Frankfort (10th;16:35).
