Jacob Burcham leading New Balance Field - Milesplit Photo
Jacob Burcham, junior from Cabell Midland High School, uses a tactical race approach in the boys Mile to win a national title with a time of 4:08.8. Running in heat #2, the US #2 ranked high school miler knew just exactly what he had to do to win a National title. In heat #1, senior Thomas Awad from East Norwich, NY ran a 4:11.84 to take the heat. Last week at the High School Dream Mile in New York City, Burcham ran his personal best and US #2 time of 4:02.73. So, "all" he had to do was beat the field in heat #2 and come in under the winning time from heat #1. Burcham easily took the race in heat #2 to become Nationaol champion.
