Dante Price 2nd In Emerging Elite 60m Dash

Updated: 3/11

Dante Price, a junior, from Jefferson High School out of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia claimed 2nd in the Emerging Elite 60m dash Friday with a personal best time of 6.94.

It took a meet record to beat him as Jefferson High School junior Dante’ Price stormed to a second place finish in the New Balance National Indoors meet at the Armory in New York City yesterday. After posting the fastest time (6.98 seconds) in the preliminary heats, Price was set to seize the crown. However, Vincent Lowe of Chesapeake, Virginia beat Price to the line in the finals with a time of 6.88 to Price’s 6.94 to set the new meet standard. Price just missed beating the previous record by 0.01 seconds.

Price later qualified for the semifinals in the 60m Championship race as on of the top 24 sprinters competing at the New Balance Nationals.  He'll be competing today for a shot at the finals later this afternoon.

Overall, it was an outstanding performance for Price and bodes well for a perennially strong Jefferson team. Price and Jefferson open their outdoor track season on March 24th by hosting the Jim Taylor Relays at Jefferson High School.

Last year Price was a double West Virginia AAA State champion in the 100m (11.07) and 200m (22.11). Congratulations to Dante. It is good to see a sprinter from West Virginia do well on the national level in a distance dominated state.

More on Price to come later.
