WV#4 Hurricane girls and WV#1 Cabell Midland Boys ran away from the field with convincing victories at the MSAC (Mountain State Athletic Conference) Championships held at Cedar Lakes in Ripley. Tori Dent of Hurricane and Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland took the individual titles.
Hurricane led by super sophomore Tori Dent placed 4 girls in the top 10, 5 in the top 12 and placed all 7 in the top 17 to slam dunk the field with 30 points. Dent with a 19:53 clocking cruised to a 20 second victory over Payton Panger of Capital who came in at 20:12.9. Making the team victory possible, the rest of the Hurricane girls finishing places and times were Baylee Summers in 5th at 20:47.40, Emily Schwendiman in 6th at 21:08.7, Allie Lawhorn in 10th at 21:52.70 and Jordon Losh in 12th at 22:09.30. Natalie Schwendiman (13th in 22:11.30) and Morgan Courtight (17th in 22:28.30) completed the points gathering for the Hurricane ladies.

Kaylee Williams of Parkersburg ran 20:34 to claim 3rd place and Cabell Midland’s Jorden Thornton took the other top 5 spot with a 4th place finish in 20:45.20.
In the boys’ race, WV#1 Cabell Midland cruised to an easy victory with 24 points to second place finisher Parkersburg with 65 points. The Midland boys placed 5 runners in the top 9 to cross the finish line and all 7 runners were in the top 16.
US#4 Jacob Burcham led Midland with a 16:26.24 run. This is only a warm-up pace for this national quality runner who regularly runs in the low 15 minute mark. Teammate Tyler Sammons reaped the runner-up award in 16:46.95, Jeremy Waugh was 4th in 17:29.90, Avery Campbell was 8th in 17:45.54 and rounding out the scoring was Eric Wooten with a 9th place finish of 17:46.45.
George Washington placed 2 runners in the top 5. Matthew Brafford took 3rd in 17:25.90 and Garrett Boggs was 5th in 17:30.17.
Next up for the MSAC teams is the Region IV Championships set to be run October 20th at Hurricane Wave Park.
