Workman Captures Times Invitational

While the Preston High School boys’ team was in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, the lady knights were in Fairmont taking care of business. Sophomore sensation Kaitlyn Workman (20:21) led her team to victory as she won the individual battle between Alyssa Scherich (20:38) of Fairmont Senior.

Workman is the top returning finisher from last year’s AAA West Virginia State Cross Country Championship. Workman was runner-up in the 1600 and 3rd in the 3200 at the state track meet.  She was on the 4 x 800 that won a state championship. These are pretty impressive considering she was a freshman when these were accomplished. Winning is nothing new to Workman. Look for her to battle all the way to the finish to try to claim her first WV State cross country championship.

To win a meet such as the Times Invitational it takes a team effort, and Preston revealed why they are one of the best AAA teams in the state. The lady knights placed three girls in the top 5. Senior Whitney Workman finished 4th in 21:19 and Racheal Hulett a fellow senior placed 5th in 21:21.

Will Shafer, junior, of Scott took the boys race in 17:16.25. Oak Hill claimed the boys team title with 58 points while Fairmont Senior High School came in 2nd with 73 points.
