A-B Men and UC Women Lead WVIAC Teams at NCAA DII East Region

Gemberling and Jones top WVIAC individuals

Lock Haven, PA – The Alderson-Broaddus men and University of Charleston women led the WVIAC charge today at the NCAA Divison II East Regions held at the West Branch Cross Country course hosted by Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, PA. The A-B men finished 5th overall and the UC women finished 7th. WVIAC champion, Sophomore Scott Gemberling, paced the Battlers as he placed 16th in the 10K with a time of 32:17. Katrina Jones, a senior of the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers, was a surprise as she led all WVIAC runners with a 10th place finish and a time of 22:19.00 in the 6K race. Jones finished 7th at the WVIAC Championships, but was the top finishing lady today as she narrowly missed advancing to the National Meet. The lady Golden Eagles finished 3rd at the Conference meet, but today they were the better WVIAC team.

The Edinboro University men of Edinboro Pennsylvania won the regional meet with a score of 59. Two-time defending East Region Champs Lock Haven University was second with 69 points. Freshman Jeff Weiss, of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, won the 10K in 31:13 which is a blistering 5:01 pace for the 6.2 mile course.

The Edinboro lady Fighting Scots made it a sweep as they won the ladies meet with an outstanding score of 33 points as they had 4 ladies in the top 10. Placing 1st and being named the 2005 NCAA Division II East Region Individual Champion was Mindy Sawtelle of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a time in the 6K of 21:01.
