WV Region II A Recap

 

Tucker County Shines

It was all Tucker County at the Region II A track meet.  The girls of Tucker County, led by Elizabeth Carr, beat out East Hardy High School for the victory, scoring 184.5 points, 93 more points than East Hardy.  The boys of Tucker County came away with the “W” for the day, but not as easily as their counterparts.  Led by Chris Bonner, they won with 131 points.  Pendleton County High School, their closest competitor, finished the day with 106.333 points.

 

Senior Elizabeth Carr was on her game at the meet, coming away with three victories for the day.  She won the 3200 meters (12:38.20), and ran a leg in the winning 4x400 meter relay (4:42.96),  and the winning 4x800 hundred meter relay (11:19.38).  Also helping out the Tucker County girls were sophomore Ashley Cassidy and junior Katie Cleavenger.  Cassidy won the 1600 meters (6:12.83) and ran on the winning 4x800 team, and Cleavenger won the 100 meter hurdles (17.68) and had a leg on the winning 4x102.5 meter shuttle hurdle relay (1:12.74).  Another notable performance of the day came from South Harrison High School senior, Gretchen Lantz, who won the 400 meters (1:01.09), 300 meter hurdles (47.47), and the Long Jump (16-02.50).

 

On the boys side it was sophomore Chris Bonner who led the way for Tucker County High School’s victory.  Bonner won the 3200 meters (11:17.95), and was on the winning 4x800 meter relay (9:24.24).  Mike Adkins also had a big part in Tucker County’s win by placing first in the Shot Put (40-00.00).   Other notable performances of the day came from Brian Simmons, a senior from Pendleton County, and George Maddox, a junior from East Hardy High School.  Simmons earned victories in the 200 meters (23.96), the 4x100 meter relay (46.58), and the 4x200 meter relay (1:37.43).  Maddox came away with wins in the 110 meter high hurdles (15.53), the 300 meter hurdles (42.38), and the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdles (1:04.51).
