Jules Sets Two School Records at Oiler Open

FINDLAY, OhioVanessa Jules of the Marshall University women’s track and field team broke her own school record in the high jump and also set a school record in the 300-meter dash at the Oiler Open Saturday afternoon hosted by Findlay University.

Coming off a freshman season where she was crowned a Junior All-American, Jules picked up right where she left off opening the 2010-11 season. The Silver Springs, Md., native won the high jump with a height of 5-9 ¼ which broke her own school record of 5-8 ½ set last outdoor season.

She would then double-back in the 300-meter dash as she took second place overall, breaking Taneshia Becton’s school record of 41.78 set in 2001. Jules crossed the line in a time of 41.50.

Sophomore transfer Jasia Richardson also recorded a top finish as she took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 38-05.50 feet. Her cousin, Elaine Derricott, finished second in the long jump as she posted a distance of 17-08.75 feet. Both are in their first year at Marshall after competing for Radford University as freshmen.
