FINDLAY, Ohio – Vanessa Jules of the Marshall University women’s track and field team broke her own school record in the high jump and also set a school record in the 300-meter dash at the Oiler Open Saturday afternoon hosted by Findlay University.
Coming off a freshman season where she was crowned a Junior All-American, Jules picked up right where she left off opening the 2010-11 season. The Silver Springs, Md., native won the high jump with a height of 5-9 ¼ which broke her own school record of 5-8 ½ set last outdoor season.
She would then double-back in the 300-meter dash as she took second place overall, breaking Taneshia Becton’s school record of 41.78 set in 2001. Jules crossed the line in a time of 41.50.
Sophomore transfer Jasia Richardson also recorded a top finish as she took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 38-05.50 feet. Her cousin, Elaine Derricott, finished second in the long jump as she posted a distance of 17-08.75 feet. Both are in their first year at Marshall after competing for Radford University as freshmen.
Other notable finished were Rolanda Bruce in the 60-meter hurdles and Delkira Maybin in the 60-meter dash. Both made it back to the finals as Bruce placed eighth overall in the hurdles, and Maybin was 12th in the 60-meter dash. Maybin also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash.
The Herd now has off until January 14th when MU is in action at the Kentucky Invitational.
