Cross Country Regionals!

On October 21, 310 St Eusebius ends his reign as Catholic Pope.  On October 21, 686 Conon begins his reign as Catholic Pope.  On October 21, 1492 Columbus lands on San Salvador Island and “discovers America.”  On October 21, 1512 Martin Luther joins the theological faculty of the University of Wittenberg.  On October 21, 1555 English parliament refuses to recognize Philip of Spain as king.  And on October 21, 2010 cross country regional races were underway all over the state of West Virginia.

 

Group AAA Region I saw individual titles from Cody Pelliccioni of Morgantown High School in a time of 16:51, and Alyssa Scherich of Fairmont Senior in a time of 19:51.  Preston High School won the boys team race, while University High School won the girls team race.

Group AAA Region II saw Brandon Doughty of Jefferson High School win the boys race in a time of 16:11, and Letitia Propst of Elkins High School win the girls race in a time of 19:34.50.  Jefferson High School won the boys race, while Hampshire High School came out on top in the girls competition.

Group AAA Region III produced individual titles from Matthew Brafford on the boy’s side and Morgan Kesecker on the girl’s side.  Brafford, a freshman from George Washington, ran a 17:31.  Kesecker, a junior from Nicholas County, ran a 20:52.  George Washington High School won the boy’s race and the girl’s race.

Group AAA Region IV saw Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland High School win the boys race in a time of 16:11, and Madison Hill of Parkersburg High School win the girls race in a time of 20:39.02.  Cabell Midland won the boys race, while Hurricane High School came out on top in the girls competition.

Group A-AA Region I produced individual titles from Bill Feeney on the boy’s side and Maggie Drazba on the girl’s side.  Feeney, a junior from Magnolia, ran an 18:00.  Drazba, a sophomore from St. Marys, ran a 20:28.  St. Marys High School won the boy’s race, while Oak Glen High School won the girl’s race.

Group A-AA Region II saw Drew Woodford of Grafton High School win the boys race in a time of 17:01, and Sarah McCauley of Philip Barbour High School win the girls race in a time of 19:31.  Grafton High School won the boys race, while Philip Barbour High School came out on top in the girls competition.

Group A-AA Region III produced individual titles from Andrew Shaffer on the boy’s side and Chelsea East on the girl’s side.  Shaffer, a junior from Richwood High School, ran an 17:50.  East, a senior from Pikeview High School, ran a 21:34.  Oak Hill High School won the boy’s race, while Shady Spring High School won the girl’s race. 

Group A-AA Region IV saw Will Shaffer of Scott High School win the boys race in a time of 17:02, and Sami Harris of Charleston Catholic win the girls race in a time of 19:57.  Ravenswood High School won the boys race, while Scott High School came out on top in the girls competition.

Next Saturday, October 30 is the West Virginia High School Cross Country Championships at Cabell Midland High School.  I hope to see you out there!
