WV Region II A – Weston. TuckerCounty boys and girls each scored 142 points and grabbed the West Virginia Region II A Championships. East Hardy and South Harrison finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in boys and girls. The TuckerCounty girls did it without winning a single individual event. However, they placed many athletes high in most events and gathered 40 points in the relays with three wins and a 3rd and 4th place finish.
Randi Jenkins, junior, from East Hardy was the most productive athlete earning 23 points. Jenkins won the 100m (13.54), placed 2nd in the 200m (29.01), and was a member of the winning 4 x 100m (55.13) and 4 x 200m (1:55.95) relay teams. Junior Katrin Schwarz of South Harrison was a double winner in the 800m (2:38.49) and the 1600m (5:57.63).
Junior Forrest Walker and senior David Rhodes led TuckerCounty to victory. Rhodes earned 22.5 points in winning the 1600m (5:05.43), 3200m (10:47.30) and was on the winning 4 x 100m relay (9:12.92) team. Walker earned 22 points and won the 200m in 24.69, placed 2nd in the 400m (56.20), and was a member of two 2nd place relays teams (4 x 200m and 4 x 400m).
2nd place team of East Hardy athlete George Maddox, sophomore, was the most outstanding athlete at the Region II A meet collecting 32.5 points. Maddox claimed region titles in 3 individual events and was on the champion shuttle hurdle relay (1:02.80) team. Maddox earned gold in the long jump (19’ - 02.5”), 110m high hurdles (16.97) and the 300m hurdles (42.73)
