Doddridge County Dominates Region Meet

 

WV Region I A -- Wheeling. Doddridge County dominated both the girls and boys team competition at the West Virginia Region I A Championship. The lady bulldogs scored 166 points and easily outdistanced runner-up Wheeling Central Catholic (94 points) and Madonna (90 points). The boys with 142.5 points scored won by over a 45 point margin. Wheeling Central Catholic would again claim runner-up with 97 points while Bishop Donahue took the 3rd spot with 76.5 points.

 

Freshman D’Andra Swiger of Doddridge County scored 22.5 points as she won the 200m (28.29) and 400m (1:03.24). Swiger was also a member of Doddridge County’s winning 4 x 400m relay (4:28.19). Bethany Carroll won two events and added 20 points to the total. Carroll bested the field in the 1600m (6:08.76) and 3200m (12:57.83).

 

The most outstanding athlete for the girl’s region meet was senior Lacey Hampton of Bishop Donahue who gathered titles in 3 events and points in the shuttle hurdle relay. Hampton owned the hurdles winning the 100m hurdles in 15.69 and the 300m hurdles in 48.94. Hampton added the high jump to her medal count with a height of 5’-2”.

 

For the men, sophomore Tanner Mattie of Doddridge County scored 25 points by winning two individual events and being a member of 2 of the 3 Bulldogs region champion relay teams. Mattie won both the 1600m (4:57.61) and 3200m (10:27.33) and was on the winning 4 x 400m relay (3:43.74) and 4 x 800m relay (8:58.87). Senior Zach Holden of Doddridge County scored 23 points and claimed both hurdle events winning the 110 high hurdles in 15.67 and 300m hurdles in 42.51. Holden added another title by being on Doddridge County’s winning shuttle hurdle relay team (1:01.21). Holden added points in the 4 x200m relay.

 

Aaron Schneid a junior from Wheeling Central Catholic won both the shot put (47’-05.75”) and the discus (141’ – 0”).
