WV Region I AA- - Ellenboro. RitchieCounty boys narrowly defeated the team from Magnolia by one point 107-106. Tyler Consolidated rounded out the top 3.
#1 WV ranked discus and shot put athlete, junior Mark Britton, from RitchieCounty led the team with two first place finishes. He threw the discus 167-03” and heaved the shot put 50’-03”. Fellow teammate and junior Cody Masters had a National Elite performance in the pole vault after clearing 14’ – 0”. Aaron Estep of Tyler Consolidated conquered the distance events by winning both the 1600m (4:43.31) and the 3200M (10:39.52).
For the girls, Weir held off RitchieCounty with a 133-121 victory with Tyler Consolidated placing a strong 3rd. Junior Tricia Marker led Weir with two victories in the 1600m (5:41.80) and 3200m (12:15.36). Weir athletes won 7 different events. Leading 2nd place RitchieCounty was Cheri Bunner, a senior, who took region titles in the 100m (13.19) and 200m (27.28). Bunner was also on the region champion 4 x 200m relay team from RitchieCounty.
