Freshman Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland established the new standard in the boys 3200m with a time of 9:20.34 at The Gazette / Friends of Coal Relays Friday evening at Charleston's Laidley Field.

UPDATE: On Saturday Burcham posted the fastest time in the U.S. for a freshman with a 4:14.51 1600m. He also clocked a 1:56.95 800m while finishing 3rd behind Jefferson's Brandon Doughty's 1:55.64 and Andy Bailey of St. Albans in 1:56.29. His 800m time currently is the 3rd best U.S. freshman time.
