Morgantown left the Mountain State during the weekend to make an impact on the running scene in the Big Apple.
The Mohigans posted several individual top-10 finishes, in addition to solid team results, at the Manhattan Invitational held in New York City on Saturday.
Morgantown's Lea Hatcher finished the 2.5-mile race in 14:07.9 for fifth place, while teammate Athena Young took seventh place in 14:29.3. North Rockland (NY) senior standout Katelyn Tuohy won the race with a time of 13:33.2.
The Mohigan girls finished fifth of 14 teams in the Girls Easterns division.
In the Boys Varsity B race, senior Jackson Core placed fourth in 13:16.7 as Morgantown captured the team championship.
In the Girls Junior Varsity C race, senior Tazanna Epps placed second in 16:59.7, with teammate Leona Chorpening fifth, to lead the Mohigans to second place.
Morgantown finished sixth of 29 schools in team standings for the Boys Junior Varsity E event.
Cameron Wild and Wet Invitational
Grafton freshmen Avrie Kelley and Kendra Rogucki finished three-four in the girls varsity 5K race to lead their school to the team win.
John Marshall sophomore Ally Hicks won the girls varsity 5K race with a time of 23:26.7, with Oak Glen sophomore Sophia Arner second in 23:48.4
In the boys varsity 5K, Oak Glen sophomore Conner Allison won in 18:44.6, with South Harrison sophomore Carter Bowie second at 18:57.0.
Parkersburg South captured the team crown, with senior Cameron Marks leading in a fifth-place finish of 19:59.1. Grafton and Weir placed second and third, respectively, in team standings.
Mountaineer Middle eighth-graders Mia Murray and Haley Kramer finished one-two to lead their school to the team victory in the girls middle school 3K race. Murray won with a time of 11:56.7.
East Fairmont placed second, with Sophia Schnore and Kailee Haymond placing three-four. South Middle took third.
East Fairmont eighth-grader Drew Moore finished runner-up in 10:42.2 to lead his team to victory in the boys middle school 3K race.
Aidan Scott, a Triadelphia eighth-grader, won the event in 10:31.9.
In team standings, South Middle placed second with Triadelphia third.
Doddridge County Middle School Invitational
Ripley eighth-grader Ellie Hosaflook edged Williamstown's Alyssa Sauro by less than four seconds to take the girls individual crown on Tuesday.
Hosaflook won with a time of 12:55.90 ahead of Sauro's clocking of 12:59.32.
Seventh-grader Katie Cottrill placed fourth to lead Doddridge County to the team victory, with Williamstown second and Ripley third.
On the boys side, East Fairmont eighth-grader Drew Moore paced his squad to victory in capturing the individual title with a time of 12:05.69. Blake Hunt and Jacob West finished three-four for East Fairmont, too. Ripley eighth-grader placed second in 12:26.32.
In team standings, Suncrest Junior High placed second with South Middle third.
Mountaineer Middle's Maddie Antonin placed fourth to lead her school to a first-place finish in the middle school girls junior varsity race. South Middle and Suncrest Junior High placed second and third, respectively.
Individually, Williamstown's Alexis Wynn won with a time of 14:23.56, with teammate Reagan Ortiz second in 14:49.61, however, Williamstown did not field a full team to qualify for team standings.
East Fairmont eighth-grader Aden Fellows paced his school, with a third-place finish, to a team victory in the middle school boys junior varsity race. Suncrest Junior High and Mountaineer Middle finished second and third.
Individually, Jackson Junior High sixth-grader Landen Deuley won the title with a time of 13:50.43
Mason Dixon Middle School Cross Country Championships
Trinity and St. Francis shared the hardware at the Mason Dixon Middle School XC Championships on Saturday.
Trinity eighth-grader Zach Workman and St. Francis eighth-grader Madeline Gump won their respective races, while the Trinity girls and St. Francis boys each captured team victories.
Workman won with a time of 13:38.5, with Gump crossing in 14:49.2.
Mountaineer (Harrison) Middle School Invitational
Mountaineer Middle School won both the boys and girls 3K races on Saturday.
Eighth-grader Shaelyn Howard paced Mountaineer with a third-place showing in 16:06.58. In total, five Mountaineer runners placed top 10.
Braxton County's Bethany Payne and Addison Lloyd finished one-two to lead their squad to second place. Payne won with a time of 15:19.43.
In the boys race, eighth-grader Maddox Prince, of Robert L. Bland Middle School, won with a time of 14:18.16, to best runner-up Jackson Ankey, of Lincoln Middle, by 12 seconds.
Mountaineer seventh-grader Wyatt Miller led his squad with a fifth-place finish.
PVC Championships
The Frankfort boys swept the podium positions en route to a decisive victory, with freshman Garrett Ferguson leading the way.
Ferguson won the individual title with a time of 19:11.40, as teammates Evan Pyles and Anthony Sanders crossed next in second and third place, respectively. Frankfort won the team championship with 19 points, as six Frankfort runners placed top 10.
In the girls race, Frankfort won with three top-10 performances to defeat Tucker County in a narrow victory.
Frankfort senior Chaysie Barnes led her squad with a third-place finish, as teammates Emily Smith and Jillian Griffith finished seventh and ninth, respectively, to lead Frankfort to edge Tucker County by five points.
Tucker County sophomore Kate Falls won the individual title with a time of 23:19.1, besting runner-up Belle Harvey of Berkeley Springs by 20 seconds.
Tucker County Invitational
Elkins runners Samantha Sproul and Addison Berdine placed two-three to lead their team to the girls title at the Tucker County Invitational held at Camp Kidd Park on Saturday.
In total, five Elkins runners placed among the top 10. East Fairmont's Erykah Christopher won the individual championship in 20:40.
Behind Elkins, host Tucker placed third with Lewis County third.
East Fairmont's Luke Hawranick and Trevor Saunders placed three-four to lead their school to the boys team victory. Elkins placed second, with Lewis County third.
Individually, Lewis County's Jacob More placed first in 17:26, with Elkins' Lucas Anger runner-up in 17:29.
Spartan Invitational
Buckhannon-Upshur claimed both boys and girls individual victories, with the boys also capturing a team title at the Spartan Invitational in Lewisburg on Saturday.
Senior Samuel Walker won the boys race with a time of 17:19.9, with freshman Cadence Vincent winning the girls event in 20:14.7.
Buckhannon-Upshur won the boys title with 19 points, besting host Greenbrier East, the only other school to field a complete team at the meet. Richwood sophomore Trey Stanley placed second of 25 finishers in 17:47.6.
In the girls race, Greenbrier East represented the lone school with a complete team. Junior Victoria Parks led the host Spartans, as she finished second of seven finishers, in 22:37.7.
Eastern Greenbrier Junior High won both the boys and girls middle school team titles, as the only school to field a complete team in each event.
Seventh-grader Isabella Harrison won the girls race in 14:27.5, with eighth-grader Aiden Beebe taking the boys event in 14:36.8.
Westside Flatlands 5000
Westside defended its home course in capturing the girls individual title and boys team championship at the Westside Flatlands 500 on Tuesday.
Britney Cochran won with a time of 23:24.66, as the boys squad took first ahead of Bluefield and River View.
Bluefield's Lavon McClarrin won the boys race with a time of 19:49.96. Bluefield and River View tied for second place with 45 points, but the Beavers took second with the sixth-runner tiebreaker.
