Can Tori Starcher of Ripley break the 5K cross country course record at Cabell Midland High School of 17:17.89 from the 2012 state meet? The sub 4:40 miler and Penn Relays mile champion Starcher already has the meet record from her 18:16 victory two years ago. However, Ripley is also looking for some redemption after a 2018 meet defeat to Parkersburg's Madison Trippett and possibly go after a record time if not in a later season attempt at the West Virginia state meet.
Starcher looked sharp last week in a season opening win at the Autumn Classic with a sub 18 minute clocking of 17:59. Fast times do not come easy on Cabell Midland's course as only 3 girls have ever broken 18 minutes on it between the state meet and St. Mary's Medical Center XC Festival (formerly GEICO Classic), but with this meet looking to have over 1,900 athletes and some of West Virginia's best as well as some out of state competition, there could be more of a push to run faster before even the month of September begins.
