24. Sammy Watson (NY)
Sammy Watson is representing the United States this week competing in the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia. The sophomore from Rush Henrietta Sperry High School in New York has a promising future ahead as she has already shown herself to be the nation's top half miler in winning both New Balance Nationals Indoor and Outdoor titles in the 800 this past year.
She also helped anchor her sprint medley relay squad to a new U.S. high school national record with a smoking 2:03 split in the pouring rain down in Greensboro, North Carolina at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor last month. During the indoor season, Watson broke Mary Cain's sophomore class national record in the 1000 with a 2:47.27 win at the Armory Track Invitational.
Watson is also ranked among the nation's fastest at 400 meters after winning the New York outdoor state title in a US #2 time of 52.69. She finally let it rip in the open 800 at the World Youth Trials two weeks ago with a personal best and US #5 time of 2:04.27.
