Gov. Thomas Johnson Wins Frank Keyser Large School Boys Invite; Jefferson 2nd

River Hill Wins Girls’ Large School Division; Jefferson Top WV School in 7th

On a beautiful day in historic Boonsboro, Maryland, Governor Thomas Johnson HS of Frederick, MD avenged an early season loss to West Virginia’s Jefferson HS by winning the Large School Boys’ division against a strong field by 68 to 77.  Ben Freed led the way for Thomas Johnson, posting a time of 15:28.3 to finish fifth.

The overall winner of the race was William Bertrand of Clarksburg, HS who blazed a 15:01.3 to outrace second place Patrick Duboyce of Linganore HS by 12 seconds (15:13.6).

Jefferson’s Ryan Graf finished a strong third in 15:19.4 supported by Andrew Milliron’s sixth place finish to lead Jefferson to its second place team finish.  Joining Graf and Milliron in the top 30 were Jackson Jacobs (19th, 16:25.3); Zach Wiberg (22nd, 16:37.2) and Rhett Zillinger (27th, 16:51.2).  Shane Rigbsy led twelfth place Musselman with a sixteenth place finish in 16:22.9.

In the Girls’ large school race, Urbana’s Emily Mulhern held off charging Jefferson freshman Abby Colbert to seize the title.  Mulhern led throughout the race but could not shake Colbert.  Both set a searing pace on the three mile Boonsboro HS course finishing in 18:02.7 and 18:03.4 respectively.  River Hill HS, led by Allison Krein’s fifth place finish in 18:33.2, powered its way to the team title over Westminster 64 to 111.  Abbey Daley of Clarksburg was the third overall finisher with a time of 18:08.1.  Jefferson was the top West Virginia team in the race finishing second with Anya Wallace crossing the line in 20:09.9 (23rd).  Other West Virginia top 30 finishes included Musselman’s Heather Jenkins (15th, 19:46.4).

Washington HS of Charles Town, WV competed in the Small Schools Division finishing xx in the Boys’ race and tenth in the Girls’ race.  Top finishers for Washington included Joe McCormick (38th, 17:24.4) and Destiny Harrison (24th; 20:32.2).
