Doddridge County Boys, Girls Win Class “A” Titles at Gazette Relays

The Doddridge County High School boys & girls track teams won the Class “A” titles at the Gazette / Friends of Coal Relays on April 27th to April 28th, 2012 at Laidley Field, Charleston, WV.

 

On the boys side, the Bulldog boys received first from Zack Cottrill in the 400-meter Dash in 52.62; Daniel Plaugher in the 110 Meter Hurdles in 15.84 and in the 300 Meter Hurdles in 41.08; the 4x100 Meter Relay team of (Zack Cottrill, Jeffrey Bonnell, Brandon Stewart, Corey Aichele) in 46.25; the 4x110 Meter Shuttle Hurdle of (Jeffrey Bonnell, Dillon Muhly-Alexander, Will Thaxton, Daniel Plaugher) in a meet record of 59.78; and Isaac Britton in the Discus Throw in 141-04.

 

Buffalo (Putnam) High School finished second behind Coach Bobby Burnside’s Bulldogs. Buffalo’s Dylan Rich won the 800-meter run in a meet record of 1:59.71, placed third in the 1600-meter run in 4:31.11, placed third in the 3200-meter run in 9:51.84. Evan Childers placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:05.79, placed second in the 1600-meter run in 4:29.17, and placed second in the 3200-meter run in 9:50.34. Both Rich and Childers ran on the record breaking 4x800-meter relay team of (Jonathan Torman, Conner Lamb, Evan Childers, Dylan Rich) in a time of 8:30.35. The previous record was held by Charleston Catholic back in 2009 in 8:37.55.

 

Other meet performances:  Casey Pingley of Valley (Wetzel) High School won the 100-Meter Dash in 11.67 and the 200-Meter Dash in 23.03; Andrew Shaffer of Richwood High School won the 1600- & 3200-Meter run in 4:28.72 & 9:39:56; Charleston Catholic High School won the 4x200 Meter Relay in 1:37.07 and the 4x400 Meter Relay in 3:39.40; Anthony Aviles of Gilmer High School won the High Jump in a meet record of 6-08.25; Keiffer Reed of Charleston Catholic High School won the Pole Vault in 14-00.00; Zane Creamer of South Harrison High School won the Long Jump in 20-05.50; Spencer Mason of Valley (Wetzel) High School won the Shot Put in a meet record of 49-06.50.                                                           

 

Boy’s Team Results - 18 Events Scored: 1) Doddridge County HS 160; 2) Buffalo (Putnam) 85; 3) Charleston Catholic HS 80; 4) Richwood HS 52; 5) Valley (Wetzel) HS 48; 6) Clay-Battelle HS 44; 7) Gilmer County HS 39; 8) South Harrison HS 25; 9) Wahama HS 18; 10) Calhoun Co. HS 3; 11) Calvary Baptist Academy 2

 

Note: There were five meet records broken in the Class “A” Boys.

 

On the girl’s side, the Lady Bulldogs D'Andra Swiger earned high point honors by winning the 400-Meter Dash in 1:01.38, the 300 Meter Hurdles in a meet record of 47.03, the High Jump in 5-02.00, and the Long Jump in 15-08.00.

 

Other Lady Bulldogs receiving first were Bethany Carroll in the 800- & 1600-Meter Run in 2:31.46 & 5:39.75; Nele Frey in the 3200-Meter Run in 12:24.50; Sarah Ferguson in the 100 Meter Hurdles in 16.44; Alexis Cayton in the Shot Put & Discus Throw in 28-06.50 & 93-08.

 

The Charleston Catholic High School girls’ track team placed second behind Craig Kellar’s Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Irish’s Alexandrine Ratnani won the 200-Meter Dash in 26.97 and Catholic’s 4x800 Meter Relay team of (Kathryn Dundervil, Quincy McKown, Emily Sotomayor, Sarah Joseck) won in 10:50.46.               

 

Other meet performances: Sydney Rush of Clay-Battelle won the 100-Meter Dash in 13.50; Clay-Battelle High School 4x100 Meter Relay team of (Arica Eakin, Mariah Hall, Fontana Eddy, Sydney Rush) broke the meet record in 53.49; Clay-Battelle High School 4x200 Meter Relay team of (Amanda Ammons, Mariah Hall, Fontana Eddy, Sydney Rush) broke the meet record in 1:52.28; Clay-Battelle High School 4x400 Meter Relay team of (Mariah Hall, Sierra Custer, Amanda Ammons, Fontana Eddy) won in 4:27.33; Gilmer County High School Shuttle Hurdle team won in 1:12.66; Emily Moore of Buffalo High School won the Pole Vault in 9-00.00.

Congrats to Doddridge County High School’s boys and girls track teams for winning the Gazette / Friends of Coal Relays in a dominating fashion.

 

Doddridge County High School has a rich tradition in track & field. The Bulldogs have been crowned State Champions four times in boys track & field (1994, 2006, 2009, 2011) and ten times in girls track & field (1986, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007).    

 

Like the old adage says, “If you can't run with the bulldogs, stay on the porch!”
