WV Wesleyan Wins Men's WVIAC Track & Field Title

WHEELING, W. Va. – The WV Wesleyan men’s track and field team registered 200 points, claiming the 2012 WVIAC Track & Field Championship Saturday.

The Bobcats’ 200 points were 20 better than Seton Hill. The Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit were third with 147 while Concord totaled 50. Glenville State (37) edged West Liberty (36) for fifth.

West Liberty sophomore Justin Frazier claimed the 100m title in a mere 10.52. He then went on to win the 200m championship in 21.78.

Wheeling Jesuit’s Brandon McKinley won the 400m event in 49.14. Glenville State’s TJ Abel posted a winning time of 1:53.64 in the 800m. The Cardinals’ Stewart Jones edged Barry Franklin for the 1,500m championship by finishing in 4:00.55.

The 5,000m event crown was won by Mike Ortiz of Seton Hill, who registered a time of 14:56.73.

The 110m hurdles title was claimed by Stephon Knox of WV Wesleyan with an effort of 14.84. He also won the 400m hurdles championship in 53.90.

SHU’s quartet posted a winning time of 42.17 in the 4x100m relay. The Griffins then edged WV Wesleyan for the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:22.92.

SHU’s Tyler McIntosh won the high jump with a leap of 2.00m (6’6.75”). Teammate Duane Parker won the triple jump with a mark of 14.04m (46’0.75”). Fellow Griffin Aron Kurzinski was second with a mark of 13.60m (44’7.50”).

The Bobcats’ Eric Myers won the shot put recorded a winning heave of 15.04m (49’4.25”). He then recorded a winning throw in the discus of 45.58m (149’6”).

WV Wesleyan’s Jesse Skiles was tabbed the WVIAC Coach of the Year while the MVP was Cuylor Edgell.
