Baynes High Jumps US #6 at 6' 10

A US=#6 clearance in the boys high jump highlighted a group of West Virginia winners in the South Hills Classic near Pittsburgh.
In his first track meet since last summer, Errin Baynes of Wheeling Park brushed off the rust and any questions about his recovery from a basketball injury with a resounding victory over the floppers. The Southern Cal-bound standout had a massive clearance of 6 feet, 10 inches, before missing thrice at 7 feet.

Baynes’ big jump removed a 6-6 effort in 2010 by Erie McDowell’s Patrick Cochran from the meet record books and beat the field by a whopping 8 inches. The winner was over on his first attempt at each of the five heights he cleared.

The Morgantown girls accounted for the other Mountain State firsts, with Natasha Trott winning the 100-meter dash in 12.59 seconds. She also was edged out in the 200 by Dejalynn Peterson of Chartiers Valley as both posted 26.57s. Brynn Harshbarger topped the 3,200 field in 11:01.19, and Rachel Hewitt tied for the win in the pole vault at 10-6.
