Seton Hill Wins WVIAC Women's Cross Country Title

 

PIPESTEM, W. Va. – The Seton Hill women’s cross country team edged Wheeling Jesuit to win the WVIAC Championship Saturday morning.

The Griffins won the race with a meet-low 55 points. The Cardinals took second after notching 58 points while West Virginia Wesleyan’s 83 points were good enough for third.

Concord was fourth, besting Alderson-Broaddus by a mere point. West Liberty garnered the sixth spot with 155 points while the University of Charleston was sixth (163 points). Davis & Elkins took eighth while Fairmont State (234) and Pitt-Johnstown (270) rounded out the top 10. The teams were followed by Ohio Valley (292), Glenville State (366) and Bluefield State (396).

The Battlers’ Ashley Teets won the meet in a time of 22:36.38, besting Stephanie Pryor by nine seconds. Debbie Amos of Charleston was third in a time of 22:53.35. Jeannie Bujdos of Seton Hill was named Rookie of the Year after placing fourth with a time of 22:56.20.A-B’s Ashley Schultz (23:07.20), Wheeling Jesuit’s Megan Truelove (23:12.49), and WVWC’s Erica Walker (23:15.92) were sixth through eighth, respectively. Chelsea Callaway of Concord (23:23.17) and Katie Balbier of WJU (23:33.90) rounded out the top 10. The top 10 competitors earned first-team all-conference accolades.

For winning the race, Teets picked up Runner of the Year honors while Tim Creamer was honored as the WVIAC Women’s Coach of the Year.
