St. Marys Sweeps Bearcat Invitational

Drazba Blazes Field

St. Marys with their convincing wins in both the girls and boys races at the Bearcat Invitational held at Grafton prove to be a worthy contender for the State titles which at one point seemed inconceivable with the dominance of Philip Barbour on the ladies side and Philip Barbour placing ahead of St. Marys last year at the State meet in the boys race.

St. Marys was led by junior sensation Maggie Drazba’s 19:30.37 clocking. Drazba had over a one minute victory against the next closest competitor Katie Jan of Frankfort. Drazba swept the outdoor distance events and was individual cross country champion in 2009.

Johnnie Hogue a sophomore from Ritchie County won the boys race with a time of 17:21.59. Hogue was able to hold off two St. Marys runners who also ran the course under 18 minutes. Junior Jordan Whitehair (17:38.02) and senior Charlie Drazba (17:49.31) paced St. Marys boys’ team to the title with 57 points. Frankfort was 2nd with 91 points.
