Schiffbauer Places Third at C-USA Championships

TULSA, Okla. - Matt Schiffbauer of the Marshall University men's cross country team placed third overall to help the Thundering Herd finish fourth as a team at the 2010 Conference USA Cross Country Championships Monday morning.

 

Schiffbauer finished the 8K course at the Indian Springs Country Club in a time of 23:42. He was 12 seconds behind Elkana Rotich of UTEP who was the individual champion. Schiffbauer earned First-Team All-Conference USA with the third-place finish.

 

David Caldwell was the Herd's second runner to finish the course as he crossed the line in a time of 24:30 and 14th overall. Caldwell earned Second-Team All-Conference USA.

Chris Cole in 23rd place, Eric Frohnapfel in 30th and Josh Feather in 31st place rounded out the top five for Marshall.

 

 

On the women's side, the Herd was led by Heather Saffel who placed 63rd overall in the 5K race with a time of 19:03. The women finished 12th as a team.

 

Tulsa won both the men's and the women's team championships.

 

Schiffbauer and the Herd now prepare for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Penn State on Nov.13th.
