WATCH: Irene Riggs Re-Writes WATTS Facility Record In 1600

Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) facility records for high school competitors continue to fall this season at the Youngstown State Open Series

The latest rewriting of the WATTS stat book is courtesy of Irene Riggs and her 4:52.26 1,600 meter effort on Saturday at the series' third installment of 2022.

Riggs, a junior from Morgantown (WV), led from the onset and took command following a few laps around the 300m oversized oval at YSU. Her mark overtakes the previous best showing at the WATTS held by Rachel Forsyth from Ann Arbor Pioneer (MI), who posted a 4:53.69 clocking in February of 2021.

Riggs' handiwork represents a new personal best across both the indoor and outdoor seasons and stations her on top of West Virginia's leaderboard and at the No. 4 spot nationally

Her record comes just two weeks after another Mountain State native Larry Josh Edwards (University High) dropped a new 3200m facility best of 8:55.69 at YSU High School No. 2
