The Herd Travels to UTEP for C-USA Track and Field Championship

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall track and field team travels to El Paso, Texas, for the Conference USA Championship on May 11-13. The meet, hosted by UTEP, marks the first time the Thundering Herd will compete since April 28 at the Penn Relays.

Marshall will compete in two events, hammer throw and 10,000m, on Thursday. Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.), Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio), Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) and Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.) will all compete in the hammer throw. Hannah Kovarik (Hurricane, W.Va.) is the only Marshall member participating in the 10,000m.

During Friday\'s field events, the Herd will enter the shot put, long jump and the javelin. Throwing the shot will be Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.), LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Pissini. As has been in the past, Kwema Phillander (Siparia, Trinidad) will be the only participant in the javelin. Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) and Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) will leap in the long jump.

Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) will compete in the heptathlon first thing Friday morning.


Friday\'s sprinting and distance events are trials for the finals on Saturday.

Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.) will compete in the 1500m and Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) in the 3000m steeple chase and 800m. Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.) will compete in the 5,000m on Saturday.

Marshall has participants entered in every sprinting event on Friday. Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.) will run in the 100mH and 400mH. Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.) is competing in the 100m and 200m sprints. Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) will run in the 400m.

Saturday once again starts with field events. Belzer, L. Jones, Burke and Pissini will all toss the discus. Brown will do the triple jump.

The Herd\'s relay teams will get a chance to stretch its legs on Saturday. The 4x100m team of Morris, Richards, Reshundra Smiley (Modesto, Calif.) and Shepard-Hall will run first. The 4x100m relay record has already been broken once this year and has a chance of falling again.

In the 4x400m relay Eastman, Richards, Zedmalia Wolfe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and B. Jones will try to break last years 4x400m record of 3:47.57.

The presentation of awards is scheduled to take place Saturday night at the conclusion of the meet.
