West Virginia Athletes at New Balance

Several West Virginia Athletes competed at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals this weekend at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC. Jacob Burcham led the way with a National Championship in the One Mile Run added to his resume.

On Thursday, competing in the Emerging Elite category junior Levi Moreland of Hampshire threw the discus 150-00.00 in flight number one to win his flight and place 6th overall.

On Friday, Maggie Drazba a junior from St. Marys ran the 2 mile in 10:37.81 to take 12th place overall in the championship race. Amelia Paladino of University high school in Morgantown placed 21st overall in the 2 mile in a personal best time of 10:46.36. Competing in the emerging elite 2 mile girls race, Brynn Harshbarger, junior from Morgantown, placed 15th in 11:20.45. On the boys side, junior Avery Campbell of Cabell Midland placed 26th in the emerging elite 2 mile run in 9:39.25. Also on Friday, Dante Price of Jefferson high school ran in the preliminaries of the boys 100m dash in the championship division and placed 10th in 10.815 to just miss qualifying for the finals. The Cabell Midland Boys team ran a WV#1 time in the 4x 800m relay in 7:46.29. Running for the Ona Elite team were Jacob Burcham, Brian Lawhon, David Jobe and Mason Dino. Finally, Rhonda Rogombe of Washington high jumped 5-04.50 to take 4th place overall in the emerging elite category.

Saturday was a big day for West Virginia athletes. US#2 ranked Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland took the National title in the mile run in 4:08.80. Please see the separate article of Jacob on WV Runners. Maggie Drazba finished 7th overall in the one mile run in 4:53.67. Dante Price racing in the 200m dash in the championship section qualified for the finals this time around with a 5th place overall finish in 21.32. Dante had set his personal best time in the preliminary race in 21.25. Anthony Aviles of Gilmer high jumped 6-04.75 in the championship flight to take 15th overall. Victoria Cooke of Morgantown placed 21st in the freshman mile in 5:29.14. The Morgantown girls 4 x 1 mile relay team consisting of Allison Lynch, Sydney Pineault, Victoria Cooke and Brynn Harshbarger took 16th overall in the championship division with a time of 22:15.66.
