Doddridge County Boys, Williamstown Girls Class A State Champions

The Doddridge County High School boys and the Williamstown High School girls track teams blew away the Class A competition at the West Virginia State Track Meet at Charleston’s Laidley Field on May 18th-19th, 2012.
 
This year's Class A State Meet was a record-breaking year for both the boys and girls. They had a combined total of eighteen performances that bettered the State Meet record, ten for the girls and eight for the boys.

On the boy’s side, the Bulldogs scored 109 points, beating second-place Williamstown High School (70 points) by 39 to win the State Championship for the second year in a row.

The Doddrige County boys team won five individual state titles with two second-place finishes, three third-place finishes, five fourth-place finishes, and three more fifth-place finishes.

Daniel Plaugher won the 110 meter high hurdles (15.11) and won the 300 meter intermediate hurdles (39.57). Isacc Britton won the discus throw (148-11). The Bulldogs 4x200 (1:33.21) and shuttle hurdle (59.01) relay teams took first.

The 4x200 relay team include Zack Cottrill, Jeffrey Bonnell, Daniel Plaugher, Corey Aichele. Members of the shuttle hurdle team are Jeffrey Bonnell, Dillon Muhly-Alexander, Will Thaxton, Daniel Plaugher.

On the girl’s side, the Lady Yellow Jackets (152 points) topped Doddridge County High School (99 points) by 53.

The Willamstown girls team won seven individual state titles with six second-place finishes, three third-place finishes, three fourth-place finishes, two fifth-place finishes, and one six-place finish.
 
Andrea Chidester won the 100 meter dash (12.69), 200 meter dash (25.82), and 400 meter dash (58.74). Lincoln Postlewaite won the pole vault (10-06.00). The Lady Yellow Jackets 4x100 (51.02), 4x200 (1:47.99), shuttle hurdle (1:05.82) relay teams took first.
 
The 4x100 realy include Kylie Hammer, Andrea Chidester, Talia Edge, Brooklyn Hammer. The 4x200 relay include Kylie Hammer, Brooklyn Hammer, Kathleen Cornell, Madelin Gardner. Members of the shuttle hurdle team are Kylie Hammer, Kathleen Cornell, Madelin Gardner, Lincoln Postlewaite. 
 
In the Class A girls, the outstanding performer of the meet was Maggie Drazba, a junior at St. Marys High School, who won the 800, 1600, 3200 meters and anchored the victorious 4x800 relay. She broke the State Meet record for all four events and holds the state's top times in the 1600 (4:51.88) and 3200 (10:27.42).

WV Runners would like to congratulate the Doddridge County boys team for winning the State Championship two years in a row, the Williamstown girls team for winning by such a large margin, Daniel Plaugher and D'Andra Swiger of Doddridge County High School for winning high point honors. We would also like to congratulate Maggie Drazba of St. Marys High School for her record-breaking performances in the distance events. Drazba has certainly made her mark at the local, state, and national level!
