Franfort Duo Shines at Chuck Zonis Invitational in MD

The Frankfort High School girls’ track & field team competed at the Chuck Zonis Invitational on April 21st, 2012 at the Mike Callas Stadium at North Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, MD.

Frankfort’s Bria Welker and Katie Jan combined to win six events out of sixteen events scored, while Welker brought home high point honors by scoring a possible forty points.

Junior Bria Welker led the Frankfort girls by placing first in the 100m dash in 12.45, first in the 200m dash in a new PR of 25.38, first in the 400m dash in 57.87, and first in the Long Jump in a new PR of 18-0.25.

Welker’s performance in the 400-meter dash and long jump achieved the national silver standard.

Junior distance runner, Katie Jan, placed first in the 1600-meter run in a new PR of 5:07.11, first in the 800-meter run in a new season best time of 2:21.59, and she placed ninth in the 400-meter dash which was also a new season best.

This past fall, Katie placed third behind Maggie Drazba of St. Marys High School and Sami Harris of Charleston Catholic High School at the 2011 Class AA-A Girls West Virginia State XC Championships. At last year’s West Virginia AA Girls State Track Meet, Jan placed first in the 800-meter run in 2:18.54, second in the 1600-meter run in 5:24.53, and fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.65.

Jan’s performance in the 1600-meter run achieved the national silver standard.

Other Notables for Frankfort: Senior Brooke Saville placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.82, placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in a new PR of 51.88, and went 4-08 in the high jump, while placing seventh. The Lady Falcons also placed fifth in the 4x800-meter relay.

The Lady Falcons totaled sixty-six points for a fourth place finish out of nine teams.
