Jacob Burcham followed up where he left off during the Indoor track season with a strong 1600-meter performance at the Carlos Akers Memorial Track & Field Meet with a US #4 performance in a time of 4:11.49. The time wasn’t a personal best, but it’s still early in the season.

This was Burcham’s season opener meet of the year that saw Burcham go up against WV #2 Joseph Kirtner of Winfield. Kirtner was right on the heels of Burcham for the first 800 meters in 2:06.18, but Burcham’s third lap signature move was just too much for Kirtner to handle. Kirtner finished second in a time of 4:23.80. Burcham’s 4:11.49 was a new Carlos Akers Meet Record by 2.2 seconds!

Burcham’s 1600-meter splits: 400 meters - 61:85; 800 meters – 2:06.18 (64.33); 1200 meters – 3:08 (61.82); 1600 meters – 4:11.49 (63.49).

Also, Jacob won the 800-meter run in a new meet record time of 1:56.19, while Winfield’s Joseph Kirtner placed second in 1:59.53, and Buffalo’s Dylan Rich finished third in 1:59.80. Burcham later anchored Cabell Midland’s 4 x 400 meter relay team to a first place finish and a new meet record in a time of 3:32.23. The previous meet record was 3:34.56.
