MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University track team will open its 2005-06 season and host the WVU Holiday Classic Saturday, Dec. 3, in the WVU Shell Building. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m.

"The girls have been practicing for the past few months and I am anxious to see how they are going to do," head coach Jeff Huntoon says. "I am pleased with the fall we've had so far."

California (Pa.), Concord, Duquesne, Frostburg State, Marshall, McDaniel, Robert Morris, Washington and Jefferson, West Liberty State and West Virginia Wesleyan are among some of the schools expected to attend.

Last year at the Holiday Classic, WVU had several outstanding individual performances and seven event championships. Susan Davis (2:21.66) and Pamela Richardson (2:23.24) ran to respective first and second place finishes in the 800m.

Jessica Czaikowski posted a time of 7.87 in the preliminaries of the 55 meter hurdles. Her time was just three tenths of a second off from an automatic NCAA qualification and just one hundredth of a second away from an NCAA provisional mark.

"I think the amount of event winners we had set the stage for how the rest of the season was going to go," Huntoon says.

Melinda Coen won the mile run with a time of 5:45.73, while Shani Boone captured the 200m title with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 25.32.
