Godwin Wins Four Events

 

 

Emily Godwin and Karissa Knabenshue led the ladies from Buckhannon-Upshur to victory in the WV Region II AAA championship while Brandon Doughty and Dante Price of Jefferson carried the guys to another cougar title. The Buckhannon-Uphur girls team slipped by Martinsburg by a score of 123 to 106.5 and the Jefferson boys team slammed the field with 176 points. Washington was a distant 2nd with 59 points.

 

Godwin, a sophomore, put on a show as she won the 100m hurdles in 15.13, the 300m hurdles in 46.72, the long jump with a Milesplit National Silver standard leap of 17' 6.5" and another Milesplit National Silver standard in the high jump with a height of 5' 6". Knabenshue, a senior, won both the shot put and discus with Milesplit National Silver standard marks with a heave of 40' 2.75" in the shot and a throw of 128' 1" in the discus.

 

Senior Letitia Propst of Elkins was a triple winner in the distance events. Propst won the 800m in 2:21.98, the 1600m in 5:23.93, and the 3200m 11:37.90.

 

Jasmin Hosby, a junior from Martinsburg, led her team to a 2nd place finish by winning the 100m dash in 12.44 and the 400m in 1:00.04.

 

The Jefferson boys team was led by triple winnner Brandon Doughty who is closing out his stellar career. and sophomore Dante Price. Doughty made it a triple Region II champion in the distance events. He won the 800m in 1:59.03, 1600m in 4:30.26, and the 3200m in 10:08.21. Price claimed the 100m (11.07) and 200m (22.27) to capture two individual crowns.

 

Cam Viney, a junior from Elkins, was a triple winner in the 400m (50.04), 110m high hurdles (14.99) and 300m hurdles (39.02).
