West Virginia Wesleyan Men And Seton Hill Women Claim WVIAC Titles

WHEELING, W. Va. (Results)– The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s track and field team garnered 222 points en route to a conference title while Seton Hill’s women’s posted 179.75 points to earn the conference crown Saturday.

On the men’s side, the Bobcats outdistanced Seton Hill by 91 points while the Griffins garnered the first-place prize on the women’s side by 20.50 points over West Virginia Wesleyan. Glenville State’s men’s coach Cam Perry picked up the Coach of the Year while Tim Creamer of Seton Hill won the women’s Coach of the Year. The Griffins swept the MVP awards as Duane Parker and Erin Beattie were honored as the men’s and women’s MVP, respectively.

Stephon Knox won the 100m in 10.85 seconds while Jonathan Feagin picked up the win in the 200m with a time of 22.29. Parker picked up the victory in the 400m in 49.64 while Josh Wilks established a meet record of 1:52.81 in the 800m.

Stewart Jones won the 1,500m in 3:59.36 and the 5,000m in 15:23.46. Rookie Luke Holubeck crossed the finish line in the 10,000m with a time of 32:29.70, winning by nearly 15 seconds.

Dwight Holden won the 100m hurdles in 14.93 while Knox took home the crown in the 400m hurdles after finishing in 55.27. Barry Franklin established a meet record of 9:21.73 to win the 3,000m steeplechase, besting Jones, who finished in 9:21.78.

The WV Wesleyan sprint team won the 4x100m relay in 42.40. SHU’s 4x400m relay team won in 3:21.56.

Chris Deaner won the high jump with an effort of 1.97m (6’5.50”) while Cuylor Edgell won the pole vault with a leap of 4.55m (14’11”).

Parker notched a win in the long jump after posting a mark of 7.06m (23’2”). He added to his day with a victory in the triple jump (14.16m (46’5.50”). Chris Freeman of GSC won the shot put with a mark of 14.42m (47’3.75”).

Matty Porter won the discus with a mark of 44.91m (147’4”) while Nate Janusey garnered the hammer throw title (47.75m, 156’8”). Zane Zebrasky picked up the javelin throw (55.09m, 180’9”).

Edgell won the decathlon with a meet record of 6,389 points.

On the women’s side, Valerie Jasper posted a first-place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.59 while WJU’s Olivia Lent notched a win in the 200m (25.42). Lent then garnered another 10 points for WJU by winning the 400m by over a full second (58.08). Shawnee Carnett crossed the finish line in the 800m with a new meet record of 2:15.37, besting the previous mark by almost two full seconds.

WJU’s Jennifer McFarland won the 1,500m (4:42.01) while teammate Anna Cote’s kick gave her a meet record in the 5,000m (18:12.04). Cote then notched another meet record, this time in the 10,000m (37:54.68), taking the record by 38 seconds. MacFarland won the 3,000m steeplechase with a meet-record time of 11:21.77.

In the 100m hurdles, Morganne Bennett crossed the line in a winning time of 14.68 and won the 400m hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 62.34.

Seton Hill won the 4x100m relay in 49.59 and Concord’s sprint team won the 4x400m relay in a meet-record time of 3:54.70.

In the field events, Danielle Perkins won the high jump with a meet-record 1.66m (5’5.25”). Beattie won the pole vault with a leap of 3.19m (10’5.50”) and the triple jump with an effort of 11.16m (36’7.50”) while Megan Ruddlesden of GSC recorded a winning leap of 5.43m (17’9.75”) in the long jump.

Megan Pratt posted an NCAA preliminary mark of 13.58m (44’6.75”) in the shot put and won the hammer throw with a meet record of 50.10m (164’4”). WJU’s Emily Taylor won the discus with a toss of 42.63m (139’10”). The javelin was won by Ashli Knotts with a throw of 37.28m (122’4”). Knotts won the heptathlon with a meet-record 4,306 points.
