Girls Rankings

Little changed at the top of the girls rankings, with Aisling Cuffe and Megan Venables taking their sectional meets with easy wins.

There were some interesting developments in WA as Maddie Meyers broke the course record of 17:35 by 1 second while winning the race by nearly two minutes.  Amy Eloise Neale appears in the rankings after breaking Maddie's mark with a 17:31.8 clocking, but from a far more competitive race as she won by 7 seconds.

Shelby Houlihan, IA, is making some noise with a US#1 13:40 4k at the state meet and then winning the All-Star Senior Champs race with a time of 17:37.

Michelle Thomas, OH, impressed by upsetting some heavy hitters to win at the OH state meet with a time of 17:41.50.

Michigan was also a fun place to be for a fan of prep XC as Brook Handler took over Megan Goethals throne with a 17:00.2 win at the Lower Peninsula state meet with Gabrielle Anzalone on her heels in 17:01.7.

Boys Rankings

What a week for prep cross country!  The top-10 boys are super-tight and should make the end of the season very interesting.  A shake-up at the top occurred with Lukas Verzbicas taking the #1 spot with an impressive run at the IL state meet.  Lukas blasted a solo-13:54 3 mile run to come a mere 4 seconds from breaking Craig Virgin's state record mark of 13:50.  Lukas is clearly in the best shape of his life heading into the most important part of the season.

Another big move was made by New Jersey new-comer Edward Cheserek, who ran won two big races in 4 days last week, highlighted by an impressive 15:18.45 on a 5250 meter layout!  It will be interesting to see how Cheserek stacks up to the competition at the FL Northeast meet.

Michael Brajdic, OH, is also a big story of the week, taking down a 1987 course record at the OH state meet, held by none other than Olympian Bob Kennedy.  Kennedy ran 15:03.2 and Brajdic won the Division 2 race with a time of 15:01.9.

2009 FL finalist Blake Williams, NC, has broken back into the rankings after impressively winning the NC state meet, which he was 8th at last year.

Also making waves were Billy Orman, AZ, and Kenji Bierig, WA.  Billy won the Arizona state meet with a 15:03.3 to shatter 2009 Foot Locker 5th place finisher Brian Shrader's course record of 15:15!  Kenji won the WA 4A state championship with a time of 15:09, just 2 seconds off of Shane Moskowitz's course record.
