Wesleyan Sweeps WVIAC Track & Field Championships

(WHEELING, W.Va.)---West Virginia Wesleyan built a big opening day lead in both meets on Friday and cruised to the men's and women's titles at the WVIAC Track & Field Championship on Saturday.



The Bobcats outdistanced runner-up Seton Hill on each side.  The WVWC women outscored SHU 216-146 with Wheeling Jesuit finishing third at 131.  Wesleyan romped to the men's championship by a 238-136 margin.  Wheeling Jesuit was also third at 124.

Seton Hill's Erin Beattie was the women's MVP after scoring 48 points during the meet.  She also earned WVIAC Field Athlete of the Year accolades.  Wheeling Jesuit's Sarah Campanelli, who set a new record in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:36.97, is the WVIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year.  Concord freshman sensation Shawnee Carnette took Rookie of the Year accolades.  Mike Cox (Concord) and Tim Creamer (Seton Hill) were honored by their peers as the WVIAC Women's Track & Field Coaches of the Year.

Wesleyan's Cuylor Edgell, who prevailed in last weekend's decathlon in record-breaking fashion, took away MVP, Field Athlete of the Year, and Rookie of the Year honors after scoring 34 points in the meet.  Teammate Kevoy Douglas, who was part of a meet record 4x400 meter quartet, earned Track Athlete of the Year hardware.  Veteran WVWC mentor Jesse Skiles adds another WVIAC Men's Track & Field Coach Award to his substantial collection.
