Wheeling Jesuit Ladies 2nd and Men 5th at Bill Van Horne

The Men and Women’s Track & Field teams put on quite a performance at the Bill Van Horne Invitational as the Women grabbed second place with 95 points and the Men finished fifth with 77.5 points.

 

Emily Taylor scored 25 points for the Cardinals which included two first place (10) finishes and fourth place (5) finish. Taylor won the discus with a distance of 147’1” or 44.83m which is a NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark. She also earned top honors in the shot put at 12.26m, converted is 40’2.75”. Taylor launched the hammer for a fourth place finish while teammate, Megan Pratt, was best in the event with a throw of 45.28m or 148’7”.

Pratt recorded six additional points for the Cardinals in the shot as she finished third, and Amanda Wheeler tacked on two points in the javelin which let the Cards earn points for all throwing events.

 

Sarah Campanelli secured the teams’ final first place finish in the 800m run. Campanelli completed the track in 2.17.11, finishing two seconds before the runner-up. Julia McGinley also scored in the 800m with a personal best time of 2.22.88.

 

In the 400m dash, Olivia Lent posted a time of 59.66 which landed six points, while the 4x100m (Kristen Saggio, Olivia Lent, Cassie Urbauer, Ashley White) and 4x400m (Lindsay Mills, Sarah Campanelli, Ashley White, Olivia Lent) relay teams also placed third. Kate McCormick added 10 points to the cause by finishing third in the heptathlon and fifth in the triple jump.

 

The Men shared in the success with first place finishes as Brandon McKinley captured the 400m crown with a time of 49.31, and the 4x400 relay team of Travis McKinley, Travis Hamrick, Brandon McKinley, and David Johnson finished before the rest of the field with a time of 3:23.71.

 

Mike Little and Jason Forrester finished second and third, respectively, in the 200m with times of 22.33 and 22.49 while Tyler Glover added a point in the event as well. The 4x100m relay team (T.McKinley, Forrester, B.McKinley, Little) finished a close second with a time of 42.72. 

 

Chad Henson finished seventh in the 800m run for two points while teammates David Bowman and Travis Hamrick came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1500m with personal best performances. Bowman earned five points for his time of 4:03.20 while Hamrick collected four at 4:04.11. Matt Ellison competed in the 3000m Steeplechase and placed third.

For the field events, Matt Logan scored a point in the High Jump while Ashton Boger, James Oliver, and Cameron Lee all scored in the pole vault. Boger vaulted 4.25m or 13’11.25” for third place while Oliver claimed sixth at 3.95m or 12’11.5” and Lee shared eighth with a 12’5.5” or 3.80m vault. Eric Kearsh added a final five points in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.39m or 139’1”.
