North Carolina 7th grader, Alana Hadley, runs 17:09.38 5000m

I had the pleasure of watching and speaking briefly to the nations new phenom last night in Winston-Salem North Carolina as 7th grader and 13 year old Alana Hadley of Community Middle School in Charlotte, NC ran a world class 17:09.38 5000m while finishing 2nd at the Wake Forest Open. Hadley running unattached led most of the race but was beaten on the last lap by Jen Rawls of Rowan College in 17:04.38.

Confirmation is waiting to see if this is a new National record for 13 year old girls. Ususally 5000m races can be quite boring, but all eyes were fixated on this amazing young lady. She told me this was her personal best, but I suspect this PR will not last long. I wish her the best.
