WV Group A-AA Region Previews

The 2009 West Virginia Cross Country Region Meets will be held on Thursday, October 22. The 8 different meets will determine which teams and individuals advance to the West Virginia State XC Championship to be held at Cabell Midland High School in Ona, WV on Saturday, October 31.

 
Group A-AA Preview
 
Group A-AA Region I will be held at Doddridge County High School in West Union. For the girls, look for St. Marys and Wheeling Central Catholic to battle for team honors. Pre race top individual favorites for the girls are Maggie Drazba of St. Marys and Brianna Robbins of Wheeling Central. Schools participating in WV Group A-AA Region I: Oak Glen, Weir, Wheeling Central, Cameron, Tyler Consolidated, St. Marys, Williamstown, Magnolia, RitchieCounty, Trinity, DoddridgeCounty, and Bishop Donahue.
 
The boys Group A-AA Region I appears to be a 3 team battle with Magnolia High School the pre-race favorite. Look for Doddridge County and Ritchie County to be in the mix.
 
Group A-AA Region II will be held at Berkeley Springs High School in Berkeley Springs. Look for host Berkeley Springs and Frankfort led by Rebecca McBride to battle it out for the top girls team. WV Group A-AA Region II participating schools: Grafton, Philip Barbour, Liberty (H), Lincoln, Tucker County, Pendleton County, East Hardy, Keyser, Frankfort, Berkeley Springs, Moorefield, Paw Paw, and South Harrison.
 
Berkeley Springs is the heavy favorite for the boys. They are led by John Mundey , Jake Wise, and Cory Yarrington.
 
Group A-AA Region III will be held at Pikeview High School in Princeton. Look for Shady Spring High School led by Desiree Roseberry to be the favorite. She will be challenged by Chelsea East of Pikeview. WV Group A-AA Region III schools: Webster County, Richwood, Greenbrier West, Oak Hill, Liberty (R), Shady Spring, Independence, PikeView, Bluefield, Mt. View, and Pocahontas County.
 
  
The boys Group A-AA Region III looks to be a tight 3 team race between Pikeview , Shady Spring and Oak Hill. Jordan Weitzel of Pikeview is the highest ranked male runner.
 
 
Group A-AA Region IV will be held at  Charleston Catholic High School in Charleston. Charleston Catholic girls led by Sami Harris is the favorite. WV Group A-AA Region IV schools: Scott, Charleston Catholic, Sissonville, Roane County, Braxton County, Ravenswood, Calhoun County, Gilmer County, Herbert Hoover, Sherman, Wayne, Van, St. Joseph Central, Poca, Buffalo, and Pt. Pleasant.
 
For the boys Group A-AA Region IV, Scott High School led by Chase Nelson and Ravenswood High School led by Matt Knowlton appear to be a close race.
