Gators Sweep SEC Outdoor Titles

Florida swept the men's and women's SEC Outdoor Championships for the first time in program history.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Behind a pair of individual titles and a whopping 13 top-three finishes Sunday, Florida's men and women swept the SEC Outdoor Championships team titles for the first time in program history and 11th time in meet history. Counting this year, Florida's sweep is just the fourth at SEC Outdoors since 1991.
The Gators' women hoisted the SEC Outdoors trophy for the sixth time in program history, with their last title coming in 2009. It is the second SEC Outdoor crown for Florida's women since Mike Holloway took over as head coach in 2008. UF's women own eight SEC Indoor Championships as well, three of which came under Holloway's direction.

  • Women's SEC Outdoor Championships (6): 1992, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2009, 2018
  • Women's SEC Indoor Championships (8): 1990, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2014

This year's outdoor title for Florida's men is their sixth in program history as well, with the last one coming in 2015, when they won both the indoor and outdoor league crowns. It marks Florida's third SEC Outdoors title on the men's side since Holloway became head coach in 2003. Holloway also coached three Florida teams that won SEC Indoor crowns.

  • Men's SEC Outdoor Championships (6): 1953, 1956, 1987, 2010, 2015, 2018
  • Men's SEC Indoor Championships (7): 1975, 1976, 1987, 1988, 2004, 2011, 2015

Sophomore Grant Holloway won the 110-meter hurdles title, joining Alabama's Keith Talley (1986-87) as the only other man in meet history to win both the 110 hurdles and long jump titles. Holloway, who finished second a year ago, is the fourth man in school history to win the 110 hurdles title, joining Earl Diamond (1989-90), Ubeja Anderson (1993), and Josh Walker (2004).
Holloway ran 13.15 seconds, the second-fastest time in collegiate history, breaking his previous school record of 13.16. The time also broke 2012 Olympic gold medalist and current world record holder Aries Merritt's SEC Outdoor Championships record of 13.22 seconds, set back in 2006.

The Chesapeake, Va., native also ran the third leg for Florida's third-place 4x100 relay, which posted a season-best time of 38.95 seconds. He closed the night as the anchor for the Gators' third-place 4x400 relay team, tying him with Georgia's Denzel Comenentia for the most individual points at the meet (23).

Junior Sharrika Barnett captured the fifth 400 meters title in school history, finishing in 50.69 seconds and breaking Tiandra Ponteen's 13-year-old school record of 50.83. Barnett came back and ran the second leg for Florida's runner-up 4x400 relay team, which clinched the meet by finishing ahead of LSU.

Notes on SEC Outdoor Championships Medalists / Scorers
  • Though the Gators didn't win the title, they scored 15 points in the men's triple jump, with sophomore Clayton Brown earning silver, senior KeAndre Bates collecting bronze, and freshman Enzo Hodebar taking eighth.
  • Brown's top mark of 16.42 meters (53 feet, 10.5 inches) improved his standing as the No. 7-ranked triple jumper on UF's All-Time Outdoor Top 10.
  • Brown was also the silver medalist in the high jump, combining with Jhonny Victor (fifth place) to score 12 points. Both men set one-centimeter personal records, with Brown's 2.25-meter clearance tying Matt Vincent (2001) for No. 3 on UF's All-Time Outdoor Top 10 and the No. 7-ranked mark in the country this year.
  • Brown joined Ole Miss' Ricky Robertson (2014) as the only other man since at least 2005 to post top-2 finishes in both the high jump and triple jump at SEC Outdoor Championships
  • Florida's 4x400 relay of freshman Taylor Manson, Barnett, freshman Nikki Stephens, and senior Taylor Sharpe ran the second-fastest time in school history (3:27.30)
  • Junior Yanis David, the No. 7-ranked indoor and outdoor triple jumper in collegiate history, finished second to collegiate record holder Keturah Orji for a fourth consecutive SEC Championship meet.
  • David's top jump of 14.05 meters would have tied her for the No. 9 performance in collegiate history, if she were not already on the Collegiate All-Time Top 10.
  • Senior Lloydricia Cameron, who entered the discus throw ranked fifth among SEC throwers, took silver with her best throw since 2016 (55.05 meters / 180 feet, 7 inches).
  • Cameron's runner-up finish was the best by a Gator since 2010, when Ashley Miller took silver as well.
  • Redshirt sophomore Elisabeth Bergh earned bronze in the women's 1,500 meters, posting the highest finish by a Gator since 2014, when Cory McGee won the title
  • Cory Poole took bronze in the 400-meter hurdles, tying South Carolina's Jermaine Collier (2013) for the second-best finish by a freshman in the event since 2013
  • Poole's time of 50.09 ranks seventh nationally and ranks 10th on UF's All-Time Top 10 list.
  • Sophomore Brandee' Johnson garnered bronze in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running the No. 9-ranked time in the nation this year (57.19).
  • Florida's men scored six points in the 1,500 meters, with junior Jack Guyton's fourth-place finish being the highest by a Gator since 2010, when Justin Taylor took third.
  • Florida had two men's 1,500 meters scorers for the first time since at least 2005.
