Team USA Continues Domination, Vashti Gets New National Record in Day 2 at Pan Am Jr's

Vashti Cunninghan, breaks her own High School National Record in the High Jump with a 6-5 (1.96 meters) clearance. She now owns the HS NR, American Jr. Record, and has tied the World Youth Record.

Team USA had quite the showing in Day 2 from the Pam Am Junior Championships in Edmonton, Canada. They came away with 20, yes 20 medals in total! Of the 20 medals, 11 of them were golden. On highlight performance came from the National Record holder in the high jump, Vashti Cunningham of Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada. She PR'ed with her jump of 6-5 to set a new National High School Record, American Junior Record, and tie the World Youth Record.

Results:

  • Women's Heptathlon Shot Put - Ashtin Zamzow places 3rd with a 11.53m throw for 630 points. Kaylee Hinton finishes 7th with a 9.18m toss for 476 points.
  • Men's Decathlon Javelin - The two US athletes place 1-2 in this event. Travis Toliver wins this event with a 56.60m throw for 687 points. Harrison Williams places 2nd with his 51.77m throw for 615 points.
  • Men's 1500m - Oregon freshman Blake Haney wins in 3:56.49. Gonzaga freshmen Brandon Pollard finishes in 2nd place in 3:56.51. Pollard was able to compete because Drew Hunter and Grant Fisher decided not to compete here.
  • Women's Heptathlon 200m - The two US athletes occupy the top two spots in this event. Kaylee Hinton wins in 24.79 for 906 points, and Ashtin Zamzow places 2nd in 25.11 for 877 points.
  • Women's 800m - University of Oregon freshman Raevyn Rogers wins in by nearly 4 seconds in 2:04.62. Ruby Stauber of Wayzata, MN places in 5th.
  • Men's 110m Hurdles - A pair of 2014 California HS grads represent the USA. Misana Viltz of UCLA wins in 13.30 and Marquis Morris runs 13.70 placing 6th.
  • Men's Triple Jump - John Warren and Nathaniel Moore go 5-6 in the triple jump with jumps of 15.88 and 15.72 respectively.
  • Women's 3000m SC - New Balance Nationals 2k Steeplechase Champion, rising junior Alex Harris places 3rd in 10:31.79. UNC's Hannah Christen places 2nd place in 10:24.32.
  • Women's High Jump - Vashti Cunningham breaks the National High School and American Jr. Record jumping 6-5 (1.96m).
  • Men's Javelin - Christopher Mirabelli gets gold with a 72.63m throw coming on his sixth and final attempt. The other US athlete, Curtis Thompson gets bronze with a 71.11m toss on his third attempt.
  • Men's Decathlon 1500m - Harrison Williams places 2nd in 4:29.20. Williams wins the Decathlon with 8032 points setting a new American Jr. Record.
  • Men's 400m Hurdles - World Youth Champ Norman Grimes in 50.10. UNC's Kenny Selmon places 2nd in 50.29.
  • Women's 200m - USC freshman Deanna Hill wins in 23.18.
  • Men's 200m - Noah Lyles get gold in 20.27, Ryan Clark gets bronze in 20.62.
  • Women's 5000m - Rachael Reddy gets gold in 16:23.35 and Caroline Alcorta gets bronze in 16:48.48.
  • Men's 10000 - Rising sophomore at the University of Texas, Connor Hendrickson gets gold in 30:46.66 as he dropped a 63 closing 400m. Rising sophomore at the University of Virginia, Chase Weaverling gets bronze in 30:53.13.
