Day 3 AM Session Recap: Tara Davis jumps U.S. No. 2 Triple Jump 42-8.25 in prelims

In the women's triple jump qualification flights, Tara Davis of Agoura, CA jumped to a U.S. No. 2 mark of 13.01m (42-8.25) in the second flight to hit the auto qualifying mark of 12.80m and advance to the Finals. Davis had the third furthest jump out of both flights and will be entering Finals with a legitimate chance to bring home a medal. In sophomore star will be the only American competiting in the Finals as Lajarvia Brown jumped 12.74m to place 7th in the first flight (14th overall) and just miss qualifying for Finals.


Lauren Rain Williams ran the fastest time in prelims of 23.41

Candace Hill, comes back the morning after her World Youth Championships 100m gold medal performance from last night to advance smoothly to the 200m semi-finals by winning the first of seven prelim heats in 23.93. That time was the third fastest time of all competitors in the prelims. The fastest time belongs to fellow American Lauren Rain Williams of Oaks Christian, CA. Rain Williams ran 23.41 winning heat 4.

Maxwell Willis ran US #8 20.99 in the 200m prelims advancing with the second fastest time

In the Men’s 200m heats, Maxwell Willis ran a U.S. No. 8 mark of 20.99 placing 2nd in the eighth and final prelim heat, running the second fastest time overall. Josephus Lyles of TC Williams, VA ran 21.09 to win the fourth of eight heats. Both Americans advance to the semi-finals.


Gabriel Oladipo advances to the discuss final with the 6th furthest throw

In the men’s discus throw, shot put champion from last night, Adrian Piperi, and Gabriel Oladipo both advance to the finals by throwing further than the auto-qualifying mark for Finals of 58.50m. Piperi placed third in Group A with a 58.62m (192-3.75) launch. Oladipo also placed 3rd in his group (Group B) with his 58.59m (192-2.75) mark.

In the men’s pole vault qualification rounds, freshmen National Record Holder, Mondo Duplantis, cleared 4.95m, the auto-qualifying mark for Finals, making it clear he is a medal contender come the Finals. The only American in the competition, Zachary Shugart, failed to qualify to the finals with his 4.80m (15-9) clearance. Despite clearing 4.80m on his first attempt, Shugart did not hit the auto qualifying mark for Finals of 4.95m and did not make the top 12 (16th overall), thus not advancing to Finals.

The women’s heptathlon kicked off today with the 100m Hurdles and the High Jump in the morning session. Jordan Fields won her 100mH heat in 14.07 to earn 968 points. That performance was the fourth fastest overall. Fellow American Cacie Lanovaz also won her heat in 14.44 to score 917 points. Both competitors clear 1.61m (5-3.5) in the high jump to earn 747 points each.
