IAAF World Youth Championships Day 4 Live Updates

Josephus Lyles and Keshun Reed place second and third in the 400m dash running 45.46 and 45.96 respectively. Lyles time of 45.46 is a U.S. No. 2 mark behind Michael Norman's 45.19.

AM Session

  • Men's Javelin Throw Qualification Group 'A' - No Americans were in group A, the winner was Niklas Kaul from Germany with a throw of 76.32m (250-04.75).
  • Men's 10,000m Race Walk - There were no American athletes in this event, Sergey Shirobokov of Russia ran 42:24.41 placing first.
  • Women's Long Jump Heptathlon - In the Long Jump, Jordan fields jumped a PR 5.60m (18-4.50) on her second attempt, while Caice Lanovaz jumped 5.51m (18-01). They scored 729 and 703 points respectively.
  • Men's Javelin Throw Qualification Group 'B' - Liam Christensen threw a PR of 72.60m (238-2.25) on his second throw to place 14th over all, just missing qualification.
  • Women's 5000m Race Walk - There were no American athletes in this event, Zhenxia Ma of China ran 22:41.08 placing first.
  • Mixed 4x400m Relay Heats - Team USA (Reed, Mason, Poole, Irby) ran 3:22.65 to finish first in Heat 2. They will move on with the best quilifying time overall.
  • Women's Long Jump Qualification - Tara Davis jumped 6.24m (20-5.75) to win Group A, and qualified second overall.
  • Women's Javelin Throw Heptathlon Group 'A' - Caice Lanovaz threw a PR 35.32m (115-10.50) placing 4th and earning 578 points. Jordan Fields threw 25.27m (82-11) finishing in 19th and earning 387 points.
  • Women's Javelin Throw Heptathlon Group 'B' - There were no American athletes in this group Alina Shukh of Ukraine threw 54.57 (179-00.50) to finish 1st 949 points.

PM Session

  • Men's Discus Throw - Adrian Piperi finished 6th with throw of 58.81(192-11.25), and Gabriel Oladipo finished 9th with 55.98(183-8).
  • Women's Triple Jump - Tara Davis finished 9th with her jump of 12.65(41-6).
  • Women's Pole Vault - Rachel Baxter and Carson Dingler go 9-10, both clearing 3.85(12-7.5).
  • Women's 200m Semi-Finals - Candace Hill cruised to a victory in Heat 2, running 23.21. Lauren Rain Williams takes Heat 3, running 23.03, beating the rest of the field by almost a second.
  • Men's 200m Semi-Finals- Josephus Lyles won Heat 2 with a PR of 20.93. Maxwell Willis finished 7th in Heat 3 with his time of 21.89.
  • Men's High Jump - Darius Carbin takes home the bronze medal with his PR jump of 2.16(7-1). Jaron Brooks finished 5th with his jump of 2.14(7-0.25).
  • Womens 800m Heptathlon - Jordan Fields finished 3rd in Heat 1 with her time of 2:21.55. Caice Lanovaz finished 2nd in Heat 2 with her time of 2:24.27. At the end of the Heptathlon, Fields finished 27th and Lanovaz finished 22nd.
  • Women's Hammer Throw - No American athletes competed. Sofiya Palkina of Russia won with her throw of 67.82(222-6).
  • Women's 400m Hurdles - Sydney McLaughlin dominated to bring home the gold with her 55.94. Brandee Johnson finished 3rd in 57.47. Two more medals for Team USA.
  • Men's 400m Hurdles - Norman Grimes ANNIHILATED the field to take the victory in 49.11. Thats the World Youth Lead!
  • Women's 1500m - Julia Heymach finished 8th with a PR of 4:21.78, improving upon her U.S. No. 1 ranking.
  • Men's 800m - No Americans competed. Willy Kiplimo Tarbei of Kenya took won in 1:45.58.
