Adrian Piperi Throws 22 meters to grab gold & the World Youth Lead in the Shot Put

Adrian Piperi of The Woodlands, Texas threw 22 meters (72-2.25) to take the gold in the shot-put and break the U.S. Youth Record. His winning throw ranks #1 on the World Youth Leader board this year and No. 9 All-Time in World Youth history.

After taking home the gold, Piperi said, “I’m speechless, honestly, because it’s it hasn’t come to my mind yet that I have actually won yet."

Although his winning throw came on his second attempt, he tied this mark on his final throw. When asked about his final throw he said, “I honestly thought it was a little farther, so I was a little disappointed but I’m glad that I ended on a good throw.”

The record moves him ahead of Ryan Crouser on the U.S. Youth standings, who is also the only other American to win this event at the IAAF World Youth Championship. Though the throw was completed with the modified Youth weight of 5kg, it still shows rapid improvement from his 66-10 PR effort to grab runner-up honors at New Balance Nationals Outdoors.

In the Javelin, Sophia Rivera of Brentwood, MO threw 52.21m on her last throw to grab and qualifying spot for the final. In the second flight, Katelyn Gocenour of Marian, NE threw 51.76m to place fourth in her flight. Katelyn will be joining Sophia in the finals.

All 400m Hurdlers advanced. On the guys side, Norman Grimes of Canyon, TX won his heat in 50.95 while Cory Poole of East Orange Campus, NJ placed second in his running 52.98. On the girls side, Sydney McLaughlin of Union Catholic, NJ and Brandee' Johnson of Nansemond River, VA both won their heats running 56.81 and 59.23 respectively. Sydney's time is the #1 time out of the prelims while Brandee's is #4.

After 5 events in the Decathlon, George Patrick of Brentwood A Academy, TN of is sitting in second place with 4077. Patrick ran 11.18 (821pts) in the 100m, long jumped 7.26m (826pts), Shot put 15.54m (909pts), High jumped 1.96m(767pts) and capped of his day 1 performances with a 50.54 400m ( 790pts). Patrick is currently 29 points behind the leader ( Ludovic Besson of France)

In the 2k steeple, the lone American Rylee Bowen of Sonoma Academy, CA placed 6th in her heat running 6:59.30 to advance to the finals.

In the 800m, Connor Dunne of San Clemente High , CA (1:53.60) and Cameron cooper of Oak Park, CA(1:53.04) place 4th and 3rd in their heats respectively grabbing auto-qualifying spots in final.
