Concord men win Greensboro Invitational Defeating Southeast #1 ranked Mars Hill

 

 

Greensboro, NC -- The 8th ranked East Region team of Division II, Concord University men, met the challenge of the #1 ranked Southeast region Division II team, Mars Hill College, and came away with a decisive 33-40 victory. Concord placed 5 runners in the top 13 places and put 5 runners ahead of Mars Hill’s 4th runner. Ryan Kent led the Mountain lions with a 4th place finish in the 8K with a time of 26:40.3. Randy Horner was 5th overall in 26:47.2.  Wingate University took 3rd place with 64 points and was led by 1st place finisher Jayce Watson with a time of 26:06.3.  

 

A Mars Hill runner said, “We came here to win and brought all of our team. We saw what Concord did at our pre-region meet and we wanted to beat them, but they were just too strong”.

 

Kallen Weaver of West Liberty State University placed 6th overall in the 5K race in 19:54.6. The Wingate ladies finished 1st with 31 points, followed by Mars Hill with 56 points. Concord ladies took 4th with 101 points.
